Finding New Jersey

The Martz busses leave Port Authority at 8:30 am and all day two hours apart. I began the hour and a half bus ride to Delaware Water Gap with a nap brought on by darkness in the Holland Tunnel and the rhythm of the wheels passing over the road’s junctures. The turnpike curves toward Pennsylvania, passing industrial developments and railroad yards empty of people but full of rusting refuse. Where NYC combines the dirt, shit and trash under five burroughs for no one to see, Jersey spreads its scoria across almost 8 thousand miles of state terra firma.
